Dear Reader, Dear Members and Friends,
2018 might be coming to an end soon, but the issues are not getting easier. It has been a very challenging year for the world economy, not the least, the turbulence in transatlantic economic relations. The United States has imposed tariffs on imports of European steel and aluminum with the EU retaliating. The American administration has notified Congress of its intention to open negotiations on a free trade agreement with the EU. Whether this would lead to an easing of economic conflicts between the two sides remains to be seen.
The Brexit outcome is not at all certain. Even with a vote in support of the deal with the EU, the situation for German and European companies, especially the small and mid-sized companies remain uncertain.
You can be sure that vbw will continue to advocate for open markets, lifting of all tariffs and the continuing strengthening of the transatlantic economic relations in the coming years is our objective.
